Adult gym equipment at Walls Bridge playground

There are four adult fitness stations at Walls Bridge playground, offering the opportunity for a full-body workout in the great outdoors!

  • Sky stepper: provides an all-round cardiovascular workout similar to a traditional cross-trainer
  • Rower: works arms, legs and core muscles and offers either a warm-up or intense workout dependent on pace
  • Combi pull-down/power-push: two workstations in one, exercising the chest, arm and back muscles; great for building upper body flexibility as well as strength
  • Squat push: a low-impact lower body workout that targets leg muscles and hip joints without applying pressure to the knees

Why not warm up with a run, jog or brisk walk before your gym session? For a scenic, low-traffic circuit of around two miles, turn right from the playground into Carreghofa Lane and continue along the lane - turning left after the entry to Carreghofa Hall Farm - until you cross the canal bridge at Carreghofa Locks; join the towpath to return to the playground.

Exercise safely! A pedal-operated hand sanitiser dispenser has been installed at each gate: please use it on entering and leaving the playground.

Carreghofa Community Council manages and maintains the facilities at Walls Bridge playground. Please let us know if you find any problems such as defective or damaged equipment.

Putting your ideas into action

Following Llanymynech’s success in the Montgomeryshire Village Award and the feedback received at the celebratory evening in February 2019, Carreghofa Community Council explored schemes to enhance the amenities of our area. One suggestion was the provision of adult outdoor gym equipment to complement the children’s playground facilities at Walls Bridge.

We invited additional feedback regarding specific items residents would most like to have installed, and launched a survey so that people could give their views. Survey forms were available from Llanymynech Village Shop and Village Hall, or online. A total of 108 people took part and Sky Stepper, Pull Down Power Push, Rower and Squat Push emerged as clear favourites. Click here for full survey results. Thank you to everyone who completed a survey, and special thanks to the Village Hall and Shop for hosting the forms and collection boxes and encouraging people to join in.

We are very pleased with the quality of the equipment and speedy installation by the supplier, Broxap Ltd. We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of former councillor Sue Morris for leading this project.
